
HADITH OF THE DAY: WHEN DEATH APPROACHED
Hadith No: 288
From: Sahih Muslim. Chapter 1, Faith (Kitab Al Iman)
Narrated/Authority ofThe same hadith is transmitted from Zuhri with the same chain of transmission. But in the tradition narrated by Ibn ‘Uyaina the words are:” impartial leader and just judge” and in the tradition narrated by Yunus: the” judge judging with justice” and” impartial leader” are not mentioned. And in the hadith narrated by Salih like the one transmitted by Laith the words are:” impartial judge”. And in the hadith transmitted by Ziyad the words are:” Till one sajda is better than the worldand what it contains. Then Abu Huraira used to say,” recite” if you like: Not one of the People of the Book will fail to believe in him before his death.

Narrated/Authority of Anasthat the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “None of you should wish for death because of some harm that befalls him. If he must wish for death, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive so long as living is good for me and cause me to die when death is good for me.”

Narrated/Authority of Al-Mughira bin ShubaOn the day of Ibrahim’s death, the sun eclipsed and the people said that the eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah’s Apostle said, “The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone’s death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear.”

Narrated/Authority of Abu Malihthat Ubaidullah b. Ziyad visited Ma’qil b. Yasar in his illness. Ma’qil said to him: I am narrating to you a hadith which I would have never narrated to you had I not been in death-bed. I heard Allah’s apostle (may peace be upon him) say: A ruler who has been entrusted with the affairs of the Muslims but he makes no endeavors ( for the material and moral uplift) and does not sincerely mean (their welfare) would not enter Paradise along with them.

Narrated/Authority of Jundub ibn AbdullahAllah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: Among the nations before you was a man who got a wound and was impatient. He took a knife and cut his hand. Blood did not cease to flow until he died. Allah the Exalted said: My slave hurried to bring death upon himself. So I will not allow him to enter Paradise. (This Hadith is sound and reported by Bukhari and Muslim).

Narrated/Authority ofthe Companions of the Prophet (SAW) that the Prophet (SAW) said: Some people of my Companions will arrive at the cistern of my Haud (pool) but they will be turned away (from it). So I will say: 0 Lord! They are my Companions. He will say: You don’t know what heterodoxy they made after (your death), and reverted. (This Hadith is sound and reported by Bukhari).

Narrated/Authority of Abu Hurairathat Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: Once the Death Angel came to Musa (Moses [pbuh]) and said to him: Respond to the order of your Lord. The Prophet (SAW) said: Musa [AS] hit the angel over his eye and gouged it out. The Prophet (SAW) added: The angel returned to Allah, the Exalted, and complained: You sent me to a slave who does not want death. Rather he has gouged out my eye. The Prophet (SAW) said: Allah set the angels eye right and said: Go back to My slave and ask him: Do you want life? If you wish to live long, put your hand on the back of an ox. The more hair you grasp in your hand, the more years you will live. At this Musa said: Then what will happen? The angel said: Then you have to die. Musa (Moses [PBUH]) said: It is better to die now. Then he invoked Allah: 0 Lord! Let me die near the Holy Land (palestine) by a shot of a stone. (This Hadith is sound and reported by Muslim).
