FEC Approves $1.96bn Kano-Maradi, Nigeria – Niger Republic High-Speed Railway

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday Approves $1.96bn Kano-Maradi High-Speed Railway.

Since coming on board, the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration have focus most attention on building a strong and formidable infrastructure for Nigeria.

“The rail line will connect 3 states: Kano, Katsina & Jigawa. It moves from Kano to Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, terminating in Maradi, Niger Republic.

This financially empowers Nigeria as the import/export hub for Niger Republic.”

When completed the project will open up the route further considering the volume of trade between the two countries down the ages.

PDP Should Account For Failed $460M Abuja CCTV Project, $2bn China Loan – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back on PDP and Atiku Abubakar in a statement signed by Yekini Nabena, the
Deputy National Publicity Secretary
All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC spokesman said:

“The statement issued by the Media Office of former Vice President, Alh. Atiku Abubakar on the standard sovereign guarantee and sovereign immunity clause embedded in Nigeria’s loan agreements with China to fund the ongoing national railway projects can be best described as unresearched, unintelligent and pedestrian.

As the Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has explained the guarantee/clause in the loan deals is standard irrespective of the the country granting the loan.

Perhaps, Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could redirect their energies to explaining to Nigerians the status of the failed $460 million Abuja Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) awarded in August 2010 by the immediate-past PDP administration.”

Mr. Yinka further said that:

“Also, they should explain the over $2billion China loan the PDP administration took between 2010 and 2013 alone; $16billion spent on power with no electricity; fuel subsidy rackets; counter-insurgency funds that were diverted and shared to political cronies among other shocking heists.

Recall that the failed CCTV installation project was initiated by late President Umaru Yar’Adua and awarded in August 2010 by former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to help security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory check the growing insecurity.

Since the agreement became signed, Nigeria has been servicing this loan to China while Nigerians are yet to attest to the visibility of CCTV project and unable to explain the status of the video surveillance project. The matter is subject to a legislative probe.”

“In all of these we are starkly reminded that the PDP remains a corrupted and damaged product. Nigerians must continue to reject the party at all levels of government.

In the area of fiscal discipline, prudence, curbing leakages, are we currently getting it right? An emphatic yes! Every kobo expended on infrastructure counts. Verifiable evidence abound in the fast expanding national railway projects, airport remodelling among other critical infrastructure projects being undertaken by the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

The days of phoney contracts as institutionalised by successive PDP administrations are fast fading.” He concluded.

Breaking: President Buhari Names Railway Stations After Prominent Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the naming of some railway stations along the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe/Ajaokuta/ Aladja/Warri corridors after some deserving Nigerian citizens. Minister of transportation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi disclosed this through a statement by his ministry’s Director of Press, Eric Ojiekwe.

The statement noted that the deserving citizens have contributed to the progress and development of their respective communities and the nation at large.

According to the statement, for the Lagos-Ibadan with extension to the Lagos Port Complex at Apapa railway station, the beneficiaries are: Bola Ahmed Tinubu (Apapa station) Mobolaji Johnson (Ebute Metta Station), Babatunde Raji Fashola (Agege station), Lateef Jakande (Agbado station) and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (Kajola station).

Others are Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (Papalanto station), Prof. Wole Soyinka (Abeokuta station), Aremo Segun Osoba (Olodo station), Chief Ladoka Akintola (Omio-Adio station), Chief Obafemi Awolowo (Ibadan station) and Chief Alex Ekwueme (Operation Control Centre)

For the Itakpe-Ajaokuta/Aladja-Warri Railway, the names are: Alhaji Adamu Attah (Itakpe station), Dr. Olushola Saraki (Ajaokuta station), Admiral Augustus Aikhomu (Itogbo station), Brigadier General George Innih (Agenebode station), Anthony Eromosele Enahoro (Uromi station), Chief Tom Ikimi (Ekehen station) and Brig. Gen. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia (rtd) (Igbanke station).

Others according to the statement include: Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (Agbor Station Complex), Brigadier General David Ejoor (Abraka station), Micheal Ibru (Opara station), Alfred Rewane (Ujevwu station) and Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe (Railway Village, Agbor).

Since coming to power in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari promised to, among other things, rehabilitate the railway subsector. The advantages of such a move are staggering. It would ease transportation, reduce destruction of roads, reduce accidents, reduce cost of production, create more jobs, enhance informal businesses along the rail’s numerous stations, and many more.

When the project was finally started, many of us cried foul due to the nomenclature used: Lagos-Kano project. That means the work was to commence from Lagos end. In many cases when government starts such project and leaves without completing it, the project is abandoned. For that reason we called on our leaders including Senators and Members of the National Assembly to intervene and ensure that the project is started on both sides. After all the length of rail is over 1000km. We didn’t succeed and the project commenced from one end: Lagos.

The initial plan was for the Lagos-Kano project to be completed in 2019. So far, in June 2020, only 156km (Lagos to Ibadan) has been completed. And just last week we read in the papers that the FGN has approved #123b for the Ibadan-Kano railway project.

It took them 5 years to complete 156km. The Ibadan- Kano rail would consist of 4 sections:
Ibadan-Ilorin 200km
Ilorin-Minna 270km
Minna-Kaduna-Kano 300km
Total 870km.

If they maintain the same speed (32km per year), it would take them 30years to reach Kano.

For this reason, our leaders need to raise up to their responsibilities. This project should be renamed Kano-Ibadan railway. If we are lucky by 2023 we may reach Zaria and if we get to Kaduna at least we would succeed in reducing the risk associated with Kano-Abuja road.

Seun Should Know Better That Chidoka Was A Product of Nepotism, So Enough of Yellow Journalism – A. M. Muhammad Esq.

When I watched Chidoka answering questions on channels TV, on Tuesday 26/5/20, on “politics tonight”, and he was talking about nepotism and the need to sack the entire cabinet of PMB, because the Minister of Power has sacked TCN MD without due process (the SGF intervened when it came to his attention), and also a similar issue at ministry of humanitarian Affairs, I laughted: for three reasons:

  1. Because the anchor is so lazy that he didn’t confront him with facts: Chidoka, did his NYSC in 1997/8, and married Ojo Madueke’s daughter, he was appointed his PA as PDP Secretary, where his father in-law was Secretary of the party .
    They won 1999 election and Ojo became a Minister of Transport. He appoints him again his PA.
    During that time he went to attend a course for 3 months on marine transportation in Singapore and when Ojo was reappointed a Minister of External Affairs in 2003, they were still together, then vacancy occurred in FRSC (everyone thought an insider will be appointed Alas! The influence of the father in-law intervened again! Minister Ojo personally told OBJ that he has an “expert “, on transportation, and OBJ being an impulsive old man, and the fact that no Igbo man has headed the agency, Behold! that PA son in-law was appointed Corps Marshall.
    It was public knowledge the brouhaha that occurred because a lot of senior officers were retired, because Chidoka was in primary school when they graduated and have Masters and PhDs, many more were on level 12, 13, 14, then (my friend inclusive who joined FRSC in 1990/91), when he (Chidoka) was still in Secondary School!
    They showed outrage and they were ignored and eased out.
    By the time he got his second tenure, and the ID, scandal blew up (he converted his wife’s experimental photo studio machines to motor vehicle license equipments and all those license of that era (two to three years were fading in weeks; I was a victim and I still have it) the scandal was investigated and father-in-law intervened and he was “ cleared”!

Finally the last gift of the stalwart father-in-law was the ministerial appointment by GEJ, after Stella Was removed and he ended the Anambara ministerial slot tenure.

During these years he acquired a Green card bought a house in the USA and literally moved his family there. This interview he granted via Skype: because of Covid-19 traveling restriction, is from his house in USA, he has been there since Christmas some may argue since they lost the election of 2019!
He has a fancy title: SA to PDP chairman on external engagement!

His analysis was so much a personal experience that the nincompoop (Seun) the host was just dazzled with him, that he came out sounding like a non-benefit of nepotism and good Ambassador of due process! Imagine!! Just because the anchor didn’t research his guest as done by international news media. Sadly the trolls on social media are so gullible that they are insulting the Naija number one enemy; PMB and his government!! Even the party that institutionalized nepotism, cronyism, bad governances are calling for cabinet change; not their party not their win! Is that what opposition does in other democracies?

  1. If the president has reversed the minister of power twice, how can PDP or Chidoka accused him of being weak, or blaming the office of staff by extension late Kyari who died weeks ago, before the removal?
  2. Why am I subjecting myself to watching a program that since 2018, was anchored towards inviting guests that will come and insult the government without facts and clear bias! A government change which they couldn’t get through the ballot or the tribunal?
  3. Isn’t it time the channels editors stop this anchor for destroying the little reputation John Momoh has left! Most news station or any station at all for that matter, or/and newspapers always die with the proprietors (literary or reputation wise?)

The Vice President has showed you can demand for truth to be told or face the court in a similar circumstance of lies and innuendo, and they retract, PMB has choose silence which is his right to exercise, but why can’t the journalists, self regulate themselves or we just are not cut out to celebrate good people only scandals (remember that platform was where Gov. Obi lies that the Lagos/Ibadan Railway was PDP project, the Kaduna/Abuja Rail got to Kaduna during PDP: when in fact it stopped at kubwa! 2nd Niger Bridge that two presidents of PDP laid the foundation cashed the allocated money, but nothing was done , many other examples like that until PMB two years). 2nd Niger bridge is now on course and the project is on schedule, and Igbos are still hating him, to mention a few!

I have in a piece recently showed that Igbos elites started nepotism in Nigeria under General Aguiyi Ironsi, but still the narrative of lies persists!!
